The magnificent “Riga Ball 2018 – the Latvian Centenary ball” has taken place in Riga.
For the third year in a row, singer Nataly Tumševica-Ērgle and her team are organizing one of the most striking and grandiose events in Latvia – the Riga Ball. The residents and guests of the capital were once again in the whirl of the best of society, captivating music and elegant costumes – as the ball returned to the luxurious interior of the Blackheads House. Moreover, this year’s celebration had a special reason as Latvia celebrated its centenary! In honor of this special event, the title of the event was “Riga Ball 2018 – Latvian Centenary Ball”.
Vienna, Dresden, Paris, London – every year ballrooms are held in all major European cities, and Riga is no exception. Moreover, the Old World traditions are miraculously interwoven with the unique charm of Latvian culture, therefore, for lovers of elegant gatherings, the “Latvian Centenary Ball” will certainly be remembered as one of the most prominent events in the country’s cultural life.
Traditionally, the ball was opened by the debutants. The young lady in white ball gowns and their partners in black dresses danced the opening polonaise and the Viennese waltz. The debutant couples were specially selected at the largest universities in Latvia and trained by the best dancers and event dance choreographers. After the debut performance, Riga Ball patroness Nataly Tumševica-Ērgle together with Riga Ball patron, Riga City Council Deputy Chairman Andris Ameriks and partners of the event announced the launch of “Riga Ball 2018 – Latvian Centenary Ball”.
The guests of the event had a really rich concert program: two orchestras – the Operetta Theater Symphony Orchestra (conductor Guntars Bernāts) and the jazz orchestra Mirage (artistic director Lauris Amantovs), as well as the best soloists of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet – Baiba Kokina and Artūrs Sokolovs, the popular voices of Sonora Vaice un Nauris Indzers, as well as world-renowned Latvian tenors Artjoms Safronovs and Vadims Vakarjuks. In addition, the program was attended by some of the best dancers in Latvia – Andrei Rogovenko and Anna Vorončuka. Riga Ball, along with the Viennese Ball traditions, honors Latvian cultural achievements: Latvian ballroom music, folk tunes, folk dances, as well as young talented Latvian musicians, orphanage students, etc. are included in the ball program. performances. Actor of Latvian National Theater Egīls Melbārdis is in the role of the host of “Riga Ball 2018”.
The gastronomic delight of this year’s event will be catered for by the 36.līnija restaurant, while sophisticated beverages will be provided by Prike Latvija, and the desserts will be offered by Desertu Studija. The symbol of the event will be the Champagne Pyramid, which is also a symbol of the Moët & Chandon Champagne House, and expresses the flow of flavors and joy. In addition, guests of the ball are invited to a walk in the gallery, where the works of students of the Latvian Academy of Arts will be exhibited. In collaboration with the new art platform New Art, works on the themes of “Latvia – 100” and “Riga Ball” were created specifically for “Riga Ball 2018”. Some prizes are auctioned in a charity lottery.
In order to have a unique ballroom atmosphere, according to the traditions, everyone is expected to strictly adhere to the dress code, in order to create the special ballroom atmosphere. Gentlemen are required to wear black tailcoats or black suits and matching bow ties, while the ladies — full-length ball gowns.
Traditionally, Riga Ball has charity goals and purposes. During the official part of the Ball, a charity auction will be held, and the funds raised therein will be directed for charity causes: to support the young musicians of Latvia and to organize ballroom dance lessons at orphanages.
